Title: «Stories in Images: Collage and Memory»

Objective: Enhance concentration, creativity, and memory through collage-making.

 

This workshop is designed to create a calming and meditative experience for seniors through the crafting of mini Zen gardens. Participants will use sand, pebbles, and drawings of gardening tools to design their own personal Zen gardens, which they can take home as a reminder of the peaceful experience.

 

GOALS:

  • Reduce stress
  • Sensory stimulation.

  • Are they enjoying the process? 0-4 scale

 

MATERIALS:

  • paper, sand, pebbles, drawings of gardening tools, small decorative items (e.g., stones, figurines).

 

TIMETABLE:

  • 10 mins – Introduction: Explain the concept of Zen gardens and their calming effects. Show examples of mini Zen gardens.
  • 70 mins – Crafting: Participants create their own mini Zen gardens using sand, pebbles, and miniature rakes.
  • 10 mins – Reflection: Participants share their creations and discuss how the activity made them feel.

 

Adaptations for Disabilities:

  • Visual Impairments: Use tactile materials like textured sand and larger pebbles. Provide verbal guidance throughout the activity.
  • Hearing Impairments: Provide written instructions and use visual demonstrations.
  • Mobility Impairments: Ensure that trays are placed at a comfortable height and provide adaptive tools for those with limited hand mobility.
  • Cognitive Impairments: Offer step-by-step guidance and simplify the activity if needed. Use larger, easy-to-handle materials.
